The death of a young infant in Montrose is now being ruled a homicide.
23-year-old Daniel Lee Ryan of Montrose was arrested and booked on Second Degree Homicide and Child Abuse Resulting in Death.
Family members say they are just devastated by this loss. They were in court today as the accused killer was advised of the charges he faces.
The victims uncle spoke asking the judge to set a higher bail. He says the family is afraid of Ryan.
The judge set bail at five hundred thousand dollar cash only. Ryan remains behind bars.
Ryan was Haleigh’s mom’s boyfriend, and was caring for her when she died.
He allegedly brought Haleigh to her mom’s work at Taco Bell, where she was unresponsive.
An EMT happened to be at the restaurant, and tried administering CPR while 911 was called.
The infant was taken to Montrose Memorial Hospital, and was pronounced dead in the emergency room.An investigation revealed that the cause of the death was blunt force trauma.
Ryan will be back in court September 22. If he is convicted on both charges he could face up to 100 years in prison and a million dollars in fines.
