Grand Junction, Colo.
Grand Junction City Council Members will consider passing a proposal to upgrade the current sewer line system.
The current Railhead Lift Station pumps waste water from lower elevations to higher elevations as part of the Grand Valley’s sewer system.
But Public Works personnel say the current pumps are thirty years old and are failing.
Monthly repairs are required just to keep the system operating.
Officials say the new lift station would reduce electrical costs and extend the life of the pumps for at least fifty years.
If a new facility is not built soon, Public Works officials say a complete system failure is possible as well as water contamination.
“The contaminants are just all bad when ever a lift station fails no matter where it is at it’s always a bad thing. In this particular case there’s a lot of traffic and the potential for a pollutant in the River is also an issue,” Public Works and Planning Director, Tim Moore said.
City officials plan to review the proposal Monday night to decide if they will authorize a construction contract.
Total costs for the new Railhead Station would add up to $309, 645.62
